The Sculpture Garden at Showborough House is open for the first time in Spring 2008. Its aim is to showcase the work of local and emerging sculptors and to encourage the appreciation of art in the garden. The sculptures in the exhibition are entries in the Affordable Garden Art Competition.
All sculptures are for sale and Showborough offers a rare opportunity for gardeners and art-lovers to see original garden art and to acquire it at an affordable price. Artists are not charged commission on sales. Visitors effectively buy direct from the sculptor with no gallery mark-up and can be satisfied that the whole purchase price goes to support the artist. It is hoped that the exhibition’s costs will be covered by visitors contributing a voluntary admission charge.
Showborough House is an informal venue. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the garden and art at their own pace. Soft drinks and beverages are available and there are plenty of places to sit. It is hoped that most people will take the time to vote for their favourite exhibit, for which there will be a prize at the end of the exhibition. There are some gravel paths and steps but no steep areas.
There is a small indoor exhibition containing paintings by local artists as well as smaller sculptures.
Showborough House lies in the Vale, between the Cotswolds and the Malverns. It is just outside the village of Twyning with its riverside pub, between Tewkesbury and Pershore, less than ten minutes drive from the A38, M50 or M5. Take the Pershore road from Twyning and at the edge of the village follow the signs to Showborough.
If using satellite navigation it may be advisable to get to Twyning and then navigate the old-fashioned way as some people’s systems have left them on the M5.
See the Exhibiton page for opening times.
